I consider it a great honour and privilege that Prof. Gertzel entrusted me with the task of establishing her scholarly legacy by ensuring her library and archives collection finds the right home, and establishing a bursary or scholarship for female post-graduate Africanist scholars.

I am a librarian and academic at Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, and was a colleague and good friend of Cherry’s for the fifteen years up to her death in 2015.
